The Giant Truth; was Goliath Will or Chris?

When most of us were young, we were told the biblical story of David versus Goliath, many of us had placed admiration for David’s strength to overcome a formidable force fulfilling a phylogenetic association that a physiologically smaller person, could overcome a giant. Because we have always been mentally programmed to think and believe that the bigger, the more dangerous the opponent is.

Now as much as that was true, the scribe who wrote the story of David versus Goliath in the book of Saul had studied this clearly and rendered their creative license on what had really happened. Because placing David as the more favorable candidate as the victor, instead of the originally listed killer of Elhanan, son of Jair, would support then David’s progression to the throne and the then Royal Bloodline. Not to mention Goliath’s ever-changing height was never questioned, till much later when scholars today believe that the original indicated height of Goliath being “four cubits and a span" just meant that he was “Big & Strong” as the city walls.

The support for propaganda it seemed hasn't spared even the oldest of religions and it seems that even today with the technology, research, and understanding available today that many of us are still giving power to the stories that are presented to us.

Take, for example, the physical altercation between Chris Rock & Will Smith. The non-retaliation seen from Chris in such a public assault was not only out of respect to the organizer of awards but also to his profession as a comedian and community for whom he had done no wrong. Yet we see the dividing power of status and wealth pivoting the scales to favor the person dealing with the injustice by providing a social filter on the premise of values in an attempt to rationalize an action that was uncalled for given the time and the place.

As much as I really doubt that this article will make much difference as ‘Goliath’ will always be played to be the victim, at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel that Goliath was a trendsetter (yes, he dawned the Roman empire armor, years before the Roman empire existed).

I personally still feel that yes that there may be freedom to press and the right to the existence of portraying one’s own story but given access to knowledge today we need to reanalyze what is placed in front of us. As I believe that we as humans have progressed and so should our judgments in the situations presented to us.
